VOLTA CELL

I. INTRODUCTION
1.1 STANDARD OF COMPETENCE
To know spontaneous reaction and determination of potential cell.

1.2 BASIC COMPETENCE
Students are expected to comprehend spontaneous reaction and determination of potential cell.

1.3 INDICATOR
• To explain the process of reaction in volta cell.
• To write down notation of volta cell
• To count potential electrode and potential volta cell.
• To recognize pressure reaction based on volta line.

1.4 CONTEXTUAL FRAMEWORK
There is an electrochemical process, which is a process of chemical reaction producing electric current, in volt cell. Volta cell is useful in daily life for example, used in
electronic tools such as battery and accumulator. Both electrochemical cell are used as source of electric energy such as in radio, flashlight, calculator, car engine, motor engine, etc. The electric energy in the means is obtained from production of chemical reaction in the form of redox reaction spontaneously occurred. There is a transfer or movement of electron from one element to another. This current determines the existence of electric current.
In this discussion, there will be an explanation of the process of redox reaction occurred in volta cell and the way to count potential electrode and the potential volta cell.

1.5 MATERIAL DESCRIPTION
a. Process of Volta Cell
Volta cell is a chemical reaction which is spontaneous and produce electric current. There must be two kind of electrodes called cathode (positive pole) and anode (negative pole). Cathode constitutes a place of acceptance of electron or reaction of reduction, but anode is a place of electron release or reaction of oxidation.
For example in an experiment:
Zinc (Zn) is dipped in solution ZnSO4 and copper (Cu) dipped in solution CuSO4.
